Lockdown: Mental wellbeing and sustainability

Almost the whole world is under lockdown and everyone is facing a really tough time. In these testing times, your mental wellbeing is just as important as your physical health. So, remember to carve out a portion of your day and dedicate it to self-care. This could be anything that works as a stress-buster for you, such as taking the time to cook your favourite meals or trying new recipes; putting on some music and dancing; working out with a friend over video; cleaning up to create a relaxing space; picking up a new skill such as painting or learning a language; catching up over the phone with friends and family; or even simply taking a selfie that makes you feel beautiful or empowered. Find out what works for you and do it.
As a designer and stylist, I would like to suggest a few things you may consider starting to work on. Let SUSTAINABILITY be your mantra. As we all know, the economy is going to be in bad shape after the COVID19 crisis, so be a responsible buyer:
• Try to differentiate between want and need first.
• Avoid shopping as a way to kill time.
• Recycle your old garments and sarees to make new ones - get creative!
• If you must buy something, visit your local weavers and independent businesses.
• Work with local karigars [tailors] to customise your clothes. Help them sustain through these tough times.
Don't fall for the fashion ideology, although it may be cheaper. Rather, aim to own a few classy garments, sarees, ornaments and accessories, made by our desi karigars. Handcrafted pieces will be priced higher, but the painstaking work that goes into creating something unique and lasting is worth investing in. These items will have a class of their own, and what you purchase today will become heirlooms for future generations. Above all else, your business will support the survival of local artisans and their art.
Whatever you do, be thoughtful about how your actions might benefit others. This is going to be our new 'Swadesi Movement' - Our small share in uplifting the economy of our country and helping our fellow beings sustain!

Fashion Styling as career

In this blog, we are going to talk about FASHION STYLING as a career. Fashion stylists who are also known as wardrobe stylists, are those creative minds who present the designers' collections in an impressive and stylish way. Such that it emphasizes the image of the fashion collection.

They are the more sought after for the photo sessions, managing the brands' image from the ramp walks to ad campaigns, highlighting the brand image as good as personal styling.

It's an awesome career option if you are fascinated by the glamour industry and want to work with the famous and rich. Your work has a huge audience as you work with the popular personalities.

Fashion Stylists are the ones who make the celebs look like stars and also highlight the garments made by the fashion designers.

The stylist's job includes working on the looks of the celebs for a particular event or occasion like award ceremonies, press conferences, parties, media appearances, photo shoots, music videos, advertisements, movies, TV serials, magazine covers and so on.

Another interesting job is being a personal stylist. It needs a lot of moving around and a great knowledge of the brands in the market.
It includes shopping with or for your clients according to their budget and preferences.

Creating looks for the models for the shoots like which props to be used, how the model will pose etc.
They have to be the visionaries who make the garment and the whole frame look great for the photographer and eventually for the audience.
Let your creative magic add more glamour to whatever you work for !

Career Option: Fashion Designing

As said in my earlier blog, let's talk about the career options in Fashion Industry in detail now!
Let's start with the most popular one,i.e.,' Fashion Designing'

Fashion Designers are the ones who design and create. It starts right from the conception of the idea till the final ready garment, passing through various phases. Their ideas come on the paper as illustrations and finally become the finished garments, going through the process of selecting the correct material, fabric analysis, pattern cutting and then finally the garment construction.

It's necessary for the designers to have knowledge about all these phases so that they can supervise the complete procedure properly and give instructions to the staff working for them.
Lot of ground level work goes on in the background of that glamorous looking designer outfit.
That's why while chosing the fashion institute, make sure they are giving you enough practical exposure.

One of the most important things which makes the saree look beautiful and stand out is the blouse that you wear with it. So don't hesitate to invest well in the blouse. A well fitted and stylish blouse uplifts the grace of the saree. And therefore, it is very important to have atleast some basic idea about which blouse style will suit your body type and will enhance your beauty positively. • A woman who is tall and has long neck should go for a blouse with chinese collar, stand collar or high neck

Beige is the colour for 2019

In style circles, beige has long had negative criticism. Editors normally allude to specific shades of beige as ''camel'', which invokes a smooth Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, instead of help tights.

That was until September 2018, when beige ruled the catwalks at Riccardo Tisci's introduction gathering for Burberry, just as on the Chloé and Chanel runways. Buyer intrigue was provoked: worldwide scans for beige attire on Lyst have expanded by 21 percent in the course of the most recent three months, while looks for beige in the SS19 classification on Tagwalk have bounced 118 percent.

How beige turned into 2019's capacity shading

Retailers (and Justin Bieber) are purchasing in. Net-a-Porter increased its interest in the shade by 25 percent this season, as indicated by worldwide purchasing executive Elizabeth von der Goltz, who named it the greatest extravagance womenswear pattern for 2019. Her group has favored pieces from Rejina Pyo, Sies Marjan and Petar Petrov, "who reconsider [beige] with excellent pale pastel shades".

Its ascent denotes a more extensive move towards "grown-up extravagance" and subtle speculation — a fashion calming down after periods of eye-popping neon, logomania and tissue exposing sportswear. Says Sarah Harris, representative proofreader of British Vogue: "In an ocean of conflicting prints and strong shading favored by such a large number of ladies, beige is currently an approach to truly emerge from the group."

First Impressions

                                     First Impressions

First impressions are made in the first few minutes and are very powerful. That first impact stays forever and thus should be taken seriously. Though it is true that the book should not be judged by it's cover, but cover is that we see first. Before talking to or knowing the person, what we see is their external appearance, in which clothing plays the major part. No matter what, the fact that people will always judge you by your appearance remains unchanged most of the times, up until they know you. Dressing up crisp, clean and appropriate according to your personality, profession and occasion, are the key factors. Never do you know which opportunity is coming your way and when. Be there to impress with a positive attitude! Put in efforts, hire personal stylist, plan your looks, to build up that first powerful impression.
